I muffins di zucca per Halloween

In questi giorni di scuola e altri impegni che rendono le giornate faticose, abbiamo bisogno di avere sempre a disposizione delle merende adatte: la convivenza con allergie multiple rende troppo difficile trovare in vendta merende dell'ultimo minuto. E così o il sabato o la domenica scegliamo la merenda per la settimana e la prepariamo. Sia essa una torta (difficilmente dra tutta la settimana) siano essi dei muffins o altri dolcetti.

Questa settimana abbiamo optato, avendo una bellissima zucca in casa, per dei muffins alla zucca: di stagione, adatti a un dolcetto anche per Halloween.

Ovviamente abbiamo adattato tutto all'essere senza allergeni provenienti dalle proteine del latte e dagli albumi d'uovo.
Fondamentalmente si tratta di una ricetta da cupcake, ma non ci mettiamo crema di formaggio o altro, al massimo usiamo la glassa fatta con semplcie acqua o succo di limone.

Sono insaporiti con una miscela di spezie che negli U.S.A. viene detta Pumpkin Spice, ma che abbiamo composto noi, non trovandola preconfezionata.

INGREDIENTI:
280 gr. farina (abbiamo usato un mix di farro e frumento)
1 cucchiaino di cannella
1/2 cucchiaino di noce moscata
1/2 cucchiaino di zenzeo in polvere
1/2 cucchiaino di chiodi di garofano in polvere
1/2cucchiaino di peperoncino
172 cucchiaino di sale
1 cucchiaio di lievito per dolci
1/2 cucchiaino di bicarbonato
100 gr. di margarina o 80 di olio di semi di mais
200 gr. di zucchero
2 tuorli a temperatura ambienteù180 ml di latte di riso o di acqua
250 gr. di polpa di zucca cotta al forno per 40 minuti e schiacciata a purea quando è morbida

Eccola qui:

PREPARAZIONE

Preriscaldare il forno a 190° e preparare le formine per circa 24 muffin.

Setacciare farina, cannella, noce moscata, zenzero, chiodi di garofano, peperoncino, sale, lievito e bicarbonato e mescolare bene.

Mescolare la margarina (o l'olio) allo zucchero, sbattendo ben bene con un frullatore elettrico, fino a quando saranno montati insieme.

Aggiungere i tuorli uno alla volta, poi unire il latte di riso e ifine il purè di zucca. Mescolare bene. 

Unire a questo punto gli ingredienti miscelati in precedenza e mescolare bene, fino a ottenere un composto omogeneo.

Riermpire i pirottini con l'impasto fino a 2/3 della loro altezza.

Infornare e lasciare cuocere per 3 minuti o fino a  cottura completa.

Lasciar raffreddare e gustare con una buona tazza di tè!

Se si desidera, si possono decorare con una glassa di zucchero al velo e acqua, poidecorare a piacere con zuccherini magari a tema o colori tipici della stagione!

Buon Halloween a tutti! per noi sarà un pomeriggio con Flashbook. Ho finalmente deciso che libro leggere: deve essere una lettura relativamente rapida (abbiamo massimo mezz'ora di tempo), coinvolgente e divertente, oltre che con un pochino di suspense.

E così alle 16,30 ci sarà questo Flashbook presso la palestra dove i miei figli praticano basket da quest'anno....speriamo di attirare quanti più bambini possibili!

La Zucca di Halloween / Jack O'Lantern

Quest'anno la zucca di Halloween per noi è un po' originale. Mi è piaciuta l'idea e ho deciso di riprodurla.
Una fatina, Tinkerbell, e la sua polvere magica:

This year our Halloween's Jack O'Lantern is a tiny bit original. I liked this idea and I decided to reproduce it.
A wee fairy, Tinkerbell, and her magic dust:

Ho trovato il disegno con Google, l'ho stampato, poi l'ho attaccato alla zucca con il nastro adesivo e ho cominciato a "punzonare" con un puntueruolo (in questo caso molto più semplice...il bastoncino per provare se le torte in forno sono cotte!) tutto il contorno sulla zucca.

I found the drawing using Google, I printed it, then I attached it to the pumpkin with adhesive tape and then I started punching holes in it with a punch, (which, in this case, was the stick to see whether cakes are ready when they're baking in the oven.), following the silhouette.

Poi, a mano libera, ho aggiunto la "polvere di fata" qua e là lungo il corpo della zucca.

Then, with a free hand, I added the fairy dust here and there on the body of the pumpkin.

Infine, con un coltellino piccolo e affilato ho unito i puntini, tagliando, fino a staccare la parte di buccia che non serviva, poi con lo stesso coltellino ho rifinito i bordi che erano rimasti un po' frastagliati:

Finally, with a sharp and small knife I connected the dots, cutting, until the peel forming the hole in the shape of Tinkerbell detached from the rest of the pumpkin. Then, with the same knife, I finshed off the borders that had remained a little bit too rough:

Lavoretti per Halloween: Origami fantasma/ Haloween's crafts: the ghost origami

Ed eccoci all'ltimo lavoretto di Halloween (prima della zucca intagliata!).
L'origami del fantasma. Sono tutti ottimi esercizi per la pazienza e l'abilità in fatto di motricità fine dei bambini. Sono semplici, alla portata di tutti.

Here we are, this is the last craft for Halloween (before the carved pumpkin!)
The origami of a ghost. They all are exercises for the patience and the capability in terms of fine motor skills of children. And they can be done by everybody, as they're simple..

 

Questa volta ho messo i passaggi per ottenere un foglio quadrato da un foglio A4, che sono semplici, ma magari non ci si pensa...

Al solito dall'alto al basso, da sinistra a destra.

I primi 5 step sono per ottenere il foglio quadrato e si spiegano da sé.

Poi riaprite il quadrato mettendolo nella posizione a rombo. Prendete il vertice sinistro e piegatelo finché tocca la piega centrale, ottenendo un triangolo sul lato sinistro, come in foto 7, in basso a sinistra.

Ripetete partendo dal vertice destro. Otterrete una forma ad aquilone, come in figura 8, al centro in basso. 

Prendete il nuovo vertice ottenuto a destra e ripiegatelo fino alla piega centrale, come in foto 9, in basso a destra.

This time I added the steps to obtain a square sheet from an A4: they're simple, but sometimes you just don't think about it.

As always, from top left to bottom right.

The first five steps are to obtain a square sheet and don't need further explanation.

Once done, open the triangle you made to cut a square and put it in the diamond position.

Take the left vertex and fold it until it touches the central fold, obtaining a triangle on the left side, as in picture 7, bottom left. 

Repeat starting from the right vertex. You'll obtain a shape that resembles a kite, as in picture 8, bottom center.

Take the newly obtained right vertex and fold it until it touches the central fold, like in picture 9, bottom right.

Ripetete l'ultimo passaggio partendo dal nuovo vertice sinistro e otterrete una forma come nella prima immagine a sinistra.

Ora viene un passaggio leggermente più complicato: dovete sollevare il triangolo inferiore destro che avete ottenuto, "gonfiarlo" e rischiacciarlo verso l'altro, ottenendo un triangolo come quello in basso a destra nella terza immagine.

Ripetere sul lato sinistro. Giare l'origami. Fate due pieghe come le due nella figura in basso a destra.

Repeat the last step starting from the new vertex on the left, and you'll obtain a shape like the one in the first picture on the left.

Now comes a slightly more complicated step: you'll have to lift the lower right triangle that you obtained, "inflating" it and flattening it upwards, obtaining a triangle just like the one bottom right in the third picture.

Repeat on the left side. Turn your origami. Make two folds like in the picture bottom right above.

Piegate bene e rigirate l'origami. Piegate verso il basso le due punte piccole, come nella seconda e terza immagine da sinistra. Piegate il triangolo più in alto verso il retro dell'origami. Piegate la punta inferiore come nella foto in basso a destra.

Fold well and then turn your origami. Now take the two tiny spikes in the middle of the origami and turn them down, folding well. Take to top vertex and fold backwards. Take the bottom spike and fold like in the picture bottom right.

Piegate ancora una volta verso il basso la coda den fantasma. Prendete un pennarello e disegnate un volto a piacere!

Fold once again towards the bottom the tail of the ghost. With a felt pen, draw a face as you please!

Halloween Part 4: Jack O'Lantern Origami

And we tried and tried, as you probably know if you've been following us for some time now, we aren't flawless and we're proud of it: better doing something imperfect than not even trying. Therefore our origami aren't perfect at all, but for us it's enough.
If you're better than we are at doing origami (which is difficult enough with tiny children, I won't tell you about our inner wars to convince the elder boy, who is a perfectionist, that it's OK to prepare almost-perfect origami, it's OK and it's only trying and trying that you reach high levels of precision, you can't have it the first time you try!), then that's better, but for us...it's enough like this!

We used a Muji Origami Paper, 15 cm. side, with only one side coloured. The resulting origami is large (you can see it in the third picture below, next to my hand, that gives you an idea of the size), it's not a particularly thin and beautiful paper, therefore if you wish a tiny origami to prepare a pair of earrings or something similar, you'd better use a smaller and thinner sheet. 

The sequence goes from the top to the bottom, from the left to the right.

Take an orange square sheet and fold it in half, obtaining a triangle.

Keeping the vertex of the triangle downwards, fold once again in half towards the left hand side, obtaining a smaller triangle.

Now take the base's left vertex and fold towards the right, until the left vertex touches the right one on the base.
You'll obtain a shape like the one in the bottom left photo above, the one with the funny spider.
Now put one finger inside the right triangle and "inflate" the triangle lifting it and then flatten it from above until you have a perfect square, like in the pictures 8 and 9 above, that is bottom center and right.

 

(Always starting from the top and from the left)

Turn the shape you obtained upside down. Repeat the same operation with the remaining triangle: lift and inflate putting a finger in it, then flatten until you obtain a square. Put it in the diamond position.

Starting from the bottom vertex and following two imaginary lines, fold towards the center fold the two side vertexes, like in image 4 (second from top on the right). Open again.

Starting from the top vertex and following two more imaginary lines that go until the folds you just made, make two more folds like in image 5, the third on the left starting from the top. Reopen.

Fold a small triangle from the top vertex backwards: it must stay on the back of the pumpkin. Then fold a smaller triangle starting from the bottom vertex, always hiding it behind the pumpkin. Finally, fold two tiny triangles backwards starting from the side vertexes. In this manner you'll obtain a pumpkin-shaped origami, more or less, according to how precise your folds are in the various passages (and depending on the quality of the paper, the thicker it is, the more difficult it will be)

Take a felt pen and draw the face of your Jack O'Lantern! Ready for Halloween!

If you wish to make a pendant, or, e.g., a brooch, coat it in enamel (yes, nail enamel) transparent or glittered, as you prefer, so that it stays better in place. And maybe fix your folds on the back of the pumpkin with some glue.

Halloween parte 4: Origami-zucca /Halloween Part 4: Jack o'Lantern Origami

E abbiamo provato e riprovato, come saprete se ci seguite da un po', noi facciamo l'elogio dell'imperfezione: i nostri origami raramente sono perfetti, ma a noi va bene così. Se voi siete più precisi (il che è sufficientemente difficile con bambini piccoli, non vi dico la guerra per convincere quello più grande che è un perfezionista che va comunque bene, va bene così, è solo provando e riprovando che si raggiunge un alto gradi di precisione, non può esserci subito al primo tentativo!), tanto meglio, noi...ci accontentiamo!

Noi abbiamo usato una carta da Origami di Muji da 15 cm con il colore da un solo lato. L'origami risultante è grandino (lo vedete nella terza foto dal rapporto con le mie mani), non è una carta particolarmente sottile e bella, perciò se volete farli piccoli per farne che so, degli orecchini, vi conviene usare una carta non solo più piccola ma anche più sottile.

La sequenza va dall'alto, da sinistra a destra.

Prendete un foglio quadrato e arancione, lo piegate a metà ottenendo un triangolo.
Tenendo il vertice del triangolo verso il basso, piegate di nuovo a metà verso sinistra ottenendo un triangolo più piccolo.

Adesso afferrate il vertice sinistro della base e ripiegate verso destra, fino a far combaciare il vertice sinistro con il destro della base.
Otterrete una cosa come quella della foto in basso a sinistra con il ragnetto perplesso.
A questo punto infilate un dito nel triangolino a destra e "gonfiate" il triangolo sollevandolo e poi schiacciatelo da sopra fino a ottenere un quadrato, come in figura 8 e 9, ovvero in basso al centro e a destra.

 

(Sempre dall'alto, da sinistra verso destra)

Girate il foglio così ottenuto davanti didietro. Ripetete l'operazione col triangolo rimasto: sollevate infilandovi un dito e "gonfiate", poi schiacciate fino a ottenere un bel quadrato. Posizionatelo in posizione di rombo.

Partendo dal vertice inferiore e seguendo due linee immaginarie, piegate verso la piega centrale i due vertici laterali, come nell'immagine 4 (la seconda dall'alto a destra). Riaprite.
Partendo dal vertice superiore e seguendo due linee immaginarie che vanno fino alle pieghe appena ottenute, fate altre due pieghe come nell'immagine 5, la terza a sinistra dall'alto.
Riaprite.

Piegate un piccolo triangolo partendo dal vertice superiore verso il dietro della vostra zucca. Poi piegate un triangolo più piccolo partendo dal vertice inferiore, sempre nascondendo dietro il triangolo. Infine piegate due triangolini verso dietro partendo dai vertici laterali. Otterrete così una forma di zucca più o meno precisa, a seconda di quanto siete stati precisi nei vari passaggi (e della qualità della carta, più è spessa più è difficoltoso).

Prendete un bel pennarello nero e disegnate il volto della vostra zucca di Halloween!

Se volete farne, per esempio, un ciondolo, o una spilla, rivestitelo di smalto (sì, quello delle unghie!) trasparente, o glitterato, come preferite, così si conserverà meglio. E magari fissate le pieghe con un pochino di nastro adesivo o della colla sul retro, perché in questo modello molto semplice i triangolini posteriori rimangono liberi e facilmente si aprono.

I Pipistrelli per Halloween 3 / Halloween's Bats 3

Ed eccoci ai pipistrelli per Halloween: interamente fatti con materiali disponibili in casa.

Here we are: Halloween's bats. Entirely done from materials usually available at home.

Abbiamo preso dei rotoli di carta igienica ormai finiti, li abbiamo colorati di nero con le tempere, abbiamo preso un pezzo di cartoncino della scatola dei cereali, abbiamo disegnato un'ala, l'abbiamo ritagliata e l'abbiamo usata come formina per disegnare le altre tre. Poi le abbiamo colorate tutte di nero.
Abbiamo lasciato asciugare il primo lato, poi abbiamo colorato il secondo.

We took some finished toilet paper rolls, we painted them black with paint, we took a piece of light cardboard from a box of cereals and we've drawn a bat wing on it, then we cut it and used it as a stencil to prepare the other three wings. Then we painted all of them black. We let them dry on the first side, then turned them and painted the other side.

Intanto anche il rotolo era asciutto e allora vi abbiamo disegnato una bocca rossa con un pennello sottile e abbiamo potuto incollarvi gli occhi tratti da fogli di carta ritagliati,  i denti aguzzi, sempre ottenuti ritagliando un foglio bianco.

In the meantime also the roll had dried, therefore we could draw a red mouth on it with a thin brush, then we glued the eyes drawn and cut from a white sheet, the pointed teeth, always obtained from a white sheet.

Con l'aiuto della mamma con un cutter abbiamo inciso due lati opposti del rotolo della carta igienica per potervi inserire le ali. Le abbiamo inserite. Ed ecco pronto il pipistrello. ORa bisogna appenderlo...allora con una bucatrice abbiamo fatto due buchi in cui abbiamo inserito del filo di nylon per appenderlo.

With mum's help with a cutter we cut two opposite sides of the toilet paper roll to be able to insert wings. We inserted them. And here is the ready bat. <now we just have to hang it. We took a hole puncher, punched two holes in the back of the bat and inserted a nylon thread in it to be able to hang it.

Nel secondo pipistrello abbiamo preferito usare degli occhietti mobili acquistati, messi in modo un po' stravagante...

For the second bat we decided to use bought eyes, but glued in a strange way...

Decorazioni per Halloween 2 / Halloween Decorations 2

Ed ecco alcuni altri lavoretti per Halloween: il primo è una decorazione per la porta, gli altri sono dei pipistrelli da appendere ovunque si voglia.

La prima richiede materiali che potrebbero non essere presenti in casa, i pipistrelli invece si creano con cose normalmente reperibili in casa.

Here are some other little decorations for Halloween we prepared: the first one is a decoration to be hung outside our door, the others are bats to be hung wherever one wants.

The first one requires materials one may not have at home, the bats can be done with things always present in a house.

Per la decorazione da porta:

• un cerchio di polistirolo
• un boa di piume nere (ma magari anche arancioni, colore molto adatto e molto allegro), o piume sfuse negli stessi colori
• spilli o colla per polistirolo
• palline di carta di vsarie misure o anche di una sola misura
• occhi mobili (oppure potete disegnarli voi)

Avvolgete il boa intorno al cerchio di polistirolo, oppure incollate le piume sullo stesso, così:

 For the door decoration:

• a polystyrene circle
• a black feather boa (but also an orange one would be cute, and happy)
• pins or Styrofoam glue
• paper balls
• eyes, or you could draw/patin them

Start by wrapping the feather boa around the Styrofoam circle, or glue the feathers to it, as per picture above (sorry the picture is not a good one due to the flash).

Prendete una pallina e attaccatevi un occhio, oppure disegnatene uno mostruoso:

Take one of the balls and glue an eye to it, or draw and paint a monster-eye:

Prendete uno spillo e fatelo passare attraverso la palla:

Take a pin and put it in the ball

Fate lo stesso con altre palline

Do the same with the other balls

Attach the balls to the circle with the pins and hang it on the door with a nylon string:

Attaccate le palline-occhi di mostro al cerchio con gli spilli e appendete alla porta con un filo di nylon:

Potete fare tutto con la colla, se preferite. Io amo riutilizzare quello che è possibile riutilizzare, come il boa di piume, perciò preferisco gli spilli per poterlo smontare senza troppi danni. Sicuramente con la colla tutto è più stabile. Benvenuti nella casa dei mostri! Mi scuso di nuovo per il flash, ma il nostro pianerottolo è talmente buio che il flash è indispensabile!

You can do every step with the glue, if you prefer. I love reusing what I can reuse, as the feather boa, that's why I'd rather use pins: to be able to take the pins out and reuse the boa. For sure if you use the glue everything will be firmer. Welcome to the house of monsters!
Sorry again for the flash effect....but the landing is sooooo dark that the flash is indispensable.

Decorazioni per Halloween 1 / Halloween arts and crafts 1

Ed eccoci già in Ottobre. E il 31 si festeggia Halloween. Per molti nell'Europa continentale non è una tradizione "tipica", anche se è la stessa cosa del festeggiare la notte dei morti (il giorno dei morti il 1 novembre), ma poichè molti ne vedono solo l'aspetto carnascialesco, ritengono sciocco festeggiare Halloween, che invece era ed è un modo per sdrammatizzare questa altrimenti triste ricorrenza.
E poichè fa freddo e spesso piove, noi ci dilettiamo col preparare le decorazioni adatte, anche se poi non è che Halloween si festeggi in modo particolare. Non solo, ci piacciono i colori autunnali, perciò ne approfittiamo per decorare tutto in quei colori (arancione, nero, foglie variopinte, ecc.)

And here we are, it's already October. And on October 31 it's Halloween. Form many people in continental Europe it's not a "typical" tradition, even though there's a Day for the Dead on November 1, but as many see only the Carnival-like side of Halloween, they think preparing for Halloween is silly, but Halloween was just a way to make a better day out of a sad one. And as it's cold and it rains quite often, we're having fun preparing decorations for Halloween, even if we don't really have a party on that date. Not only because of bad weather: the truth is we like autumn colors and we prepare arts and crafts in those nice colours: orange, black, coloured leaves, etc.

Il primo gruppo di decorazioni è stato fatto anche per esercitare la motricità fine dei bimbi: abbiamo preparato delle belle ragnatele, piegando bene la carta e ritagliando strisce e buchi anche molto piccoli, le abbiamo colorate e ora sono pronte per essere appese al nostro candeliere:

The first set of decorations was made also to exercise fine motor skills in the kids: we prepared spider webs, folding paper and cutting them the way we desired, then we coloured them, and now they're ready to be hung from our chandelier:

Abbiamo cominciato da un semplice foglio bianco formato A4, ne abbiamo ottenuto un quadrato piegandolo e tagliandolo, e poi abbiamo seguito una serie di passi di piegatura qui di seguito illustrati:

We started from a simple A4 white piece of paper, we obtained from it, folding and cutting, a square paper and then we followed a number of steps of folding pictured here:

1. dopo aver ottenuto un quadrato, si piega in due il foglio, tenendo la parte aperta verso l'alto. Poi si dà una piegatura di nuovo a metà, sempre tenendo la parte aperta in alto e senza ripiegare il foglio: ci serve solo una piega che indichi la metà.
2. Si prende il lato destro del foglio e si piega un triangolo, arrivando con il vertice inferiore alla metà del foglio, ovvero dove abbiamo fatto seconda la piegatura.
3. si gira il foglio e si piega un altro triangolo, seguendo il lato del precedente triangolo, partendo dal vertice inferiore. Si ottiene così
4. un triangolo con due punte sporgenti alla base (che è in alto), una forma un po' strana.
5. come sopra
6. si traccia una riga dove poi si taglierà il foglio per ottenere un vero e proprio triangolo, senza punte strane.
7. si taglia dove segnato in rosso, poi si ripiega il triangolo a metà per formare un triangolo più piccolo.
8. se si taglia con la mano destra, si tiene il lato aperto a destra, se si taglia con la mano sinistra, si tiene il lato aperto a sinistra. E si tracciano le righe dove si vuole tagliare per formare la ragnatela. Io ne ho fatta una stondata alla base e una serie simili dalla base al vertice. Poi ho deciso di fare un buco centrale, quindi ho tagliato via il vertice.

1. From the A4 sheet, obtain a square folding and cutting it. After having obtained a square, fold the sheet in two, keeping the open side up. Fold it in half again, keeping the opening up, to obtain a fold in the middle, even if we're going to keep the sheet folded in two.
2. Take the right side of the sheet and fold it in a triangle, maintaining the lower corner of the triangle at the bottom in the middle, where we folded the sheet previously.
3. turn the sheet and make a second triangle, following the side of the previous one on the opposite side, starting from the lower corner. This way you'll obtain 
4. A triangle with two strange points coming out of the base, which is, at the moment, at the top. A strange form.
5. the same picture as above
6. draw a line where you'll cut later to make it a right triangle, without strange points;
7. cut along the red line, then fold once again the triangle to obtain a smaller one
8. if you use your scissors with the right hand, keep the opening to the right. If you use them with the left hand, keep it to the left. Draw the lines where you want your openings to be. I made a rounded line at the base and some simple ones to mark the web, then I cut the top corner away to make a hole in the middle.

 

Iniziate a tagliare lungo le linee tracciate: con un paio di forbici piccole sarà più difficile perchè il foglio è abbastanza spesso, con un paio grandi sarà tutto più semplice.

Start cutting along the lines: it will be harder with a very small pair of scissors because the paper is a little bit thick, but with a larger pair it will be easy.
